Civil Liberties Monitoring Project Annual Forum
The Civil Liberties Monitoring Project yearly public forum and benefit will
be held Saturday, November 9 at the Mateel Community Center in Redway from
7-9 pm. The event is free to the public; donations will be accepted.
Our featured speaker will be Tony Serra, well-known human rights attorney
known for his flamboyant courtroom style, immortalized in the movie "True
Believers." Serra was one of the attorneys who won a $4.4 million judgment
this year against the FBI and Oakland police department for violating the
first amendment rights of EarthFirst! activists Judi Bari and Darryl
Cherney. Attorney Dennis Cunningham will also speak at the event, along with
Christina Allbright of the North Coast ACLU, Humboldt County Sheriff Gary
Philp, and forest defenders Air and Spring. Fred in the Hills will emcee the
evening, Darryl Cherney will provide musical entertainment, and a drawing
will be held to choose the lucky winner of the Win a Trip to Maui raffle.
