HAPA's newest exhibit features 12 interrelated counterculture newsletters from our region, including this issue of United Stand News from July 1975. View the exhibit at the Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center (782 Redwood Drive, Garberville) from November 4th until March 4th. Open Monday – Friday 8:30 – 4:30, closed for lunch 12:30 – 1:00.

Salmon Ceremony Oral Histories Exhibit

Embark on a journey of renewal with the Salmon Ceremony Oral Histories: An Interactive Exhibit. Curated by the Humboldt Area Peoples Archive, this ground-breaking exhibit gives you an interactive experience of the Salmon Ceremony. Listen to the voices of Ruth and Barry speak about the meaning of the ceremony, look at the photos at the mouth of the Mattole, and discover the regalia and other objects from the Bear River Band. Developed in collaboration with the Bear River Band, the Mattole Salmon Group, Stacy Schaefer PhD, Ai Iwane and the Humboldt County Visitors Bureau.

HAPA 2024 Intern Avril Frasche

Library science master’s student Avril is working with HAPA archivist Edith Butler on the Salmon Creek School, among other collections, a part of her studies for a Master of Library and Information Science. She is completing her degree from San Jose State University remotely, as a resident of Eureka and intends on remaining in Humboldt. Avril is passionate about preserving and making available the community’s history. In her free time, she loves hiking, swimming, archery, embroidery and other fiber arts, and baking.
